One of the rarest species of wild orchids in the island, Dendrobium diodon is a dwarf epiphytic plant. Grown in the sub montane region, the plant has been recorded in the Kandy district.

Although it is named as an endemic species to Sri Lanka, there have been some unconfirmed records in South India.

Growing on rock edges or mossy tree branches in wet shady places, the flowers are mainly found in July to October – the white coloured flowers are about 1.5 cm – 2.0 cm.
