Location: Jetwing Lighthouse
Hello, I’m Anoma and I’m the Naturalist at one of the world’s leading hotels, Jetwing Lighthouse. As a child, I was very interested in wildlife and learning about nature was my prime hobby. I would read countless newspaper articles and yearned to become as knowledgeable as I could about Sri Lanka’s fauna and flora! There was never too much to find out!
After completing my Ordinary Level Examinations at Vidyaloka College in Galle, I met Dharma Sri Kandamby who was the Curator in Zoology for the Galle Maritime Museum. He enthusiastically taught me more about plants and wildlife as I eagerly improved my understanding of nature and hung onto his every word! I later completed a Wildlife Conservation and Management degree at The Open University of Colombo and from there took part in many research projects that involved land animals and bird life.
I was employed by Jetwing in 2004 as a resident Naturalist for Lighthouse. I took guests on tours to many wildlife and national parks. In 2006, I was introduced to renowned marine biologist Dr. Charles Anderson. That was when I became deeply intrigued with whale and dolphin watching!
